my week #268

This is officially my last week on elective and I've had such a good time. I've loved every moment and have learnt a lot more about paediatric surgery. However, with two months free until I start work, the team have allowed me to continue going in if I get bored/have a day off, etc. As someone who struggles to sit still and hates not feeling productive, this is something I really appreciate!

We've had some sweltering weather recently too and the commute has been a sweaty and disgusting mess. Any ideas for how to keep cool in humid conditions?!

How has your week been?

  1. Please please please take the time off and enjoy doing non medicine related things. See friends, read books, hang out with family. Sleep in, work out, cook. Travel if you want. Medicine will start squeezing the time for these things, maybe abruptly, maybe more insidiously. (Maybe I'm just bitter and cynical because hubby and I are PGY7, living apart for the fourth 6-month term in a row because of his gen surg training...)

    1. Don't worry, I have many plans to relax this summer! I'm just going to be going in once or twice a week as I really enjoyed it all! :) Hope things are well with you xx

  2. I live in the U.S. in one of the more humid areas. My advice for keeping cool is LOTS of cold water! If you have long hair wear it up and put a cool compress on the back of your neck. Hang in there, and hopefully you will get some relief soon. 😊

    1. Cold water! I like that idea even if the water eventually turns to lukewarm haha! It's cooled down a lot this week which is nice :) Hope it's not too bad on your end! x

  3. Humidity is a tough one to deal with! I agree with having lots of water and wearing your hair up. Wear lighter clothes for the commute and bring another outfit to change into for work if possible. I find a cold compress is great on the back of the neck and the wrists.

    1. Bringing an outfit to change into is actually a really good idea! I try and go to theatre on the really humid days cos it means I can change into scrubs and also, the theatres are usually at a nice, cool temperature :) x

  4. Make sure you take some time off! You can buy a cooling spray which could help with the humidity along with wearing your hair up! So
