review: filofax amazona almond personal

As most of you know, I've been looking for an Amazona almond in the personal size for quite some time now. My search heightened when it came to the hand-in date of my dissertation (procrastination at its finest, in my opinion!) and I bit the bullet once I handed it in. After enduring no such luck on trawling the internet in search of this proverbial needle in a haystack, I decided to contact Filofax to see if they had any stock in their stores.

Alas, they did! I quickly phoned up their Filofax Centre and this baby was shipped out to me the day after (as I phoned quite late in the day). My only gripe was having to pay more than the sale price it on for on the website last year; but it wasn't full price and because I really wanted this Filofax, I shelled out for it. And, I had just handed in my dissertation, so why not?

Anyway, two days later (well, around 40 hours later), I received this baby. I've shown the envelope after I ripped it open as I couldn't contain my excitement!

And encased within it was a familiar black box...

Upon opening, I was greeted with this site... (can you see it yet?)

And after unravelling the tissue paper, I came face to face with this beaut.

Honestly, it was love at first sight. I thought I loved my Affair; well, how wrong was I. It was because I didn't have this in my life! The colour, the feel, the shininess... I loved it. And, two pen loops! Love love LOVE!

Opening it up, this was what was on the left: four card slots and a flap (plus, a pen loop):

And on the left, a zipped compartment and another pen loop (yay!):

And this was the Filofax once open:

Now, my only gripe is that it doesn't lie flat out of the box. I have, however, been training it since I received it and it has improved a lot. I've not fully moved into it yet due to this minor issue but I'm hoping to after training it for a bit just to ensure it does continue to lie flat. However, after a day of training (with the inserts spread equally in two and a phone on one side with a tube of handcream on the other!), it did lie flat... but three of the rings ended up with 1mm gaps. Now, I'm not sure if that was there before, but surely these two items couldn't possibly have done this?!

Either way, it will be on its way back to Filofax on Monday and they have promised me a replacement in the form of an Osterley in plum. Maybe it was just meant to be with the Osterley?

  1. Whilst I'm not a fan of the colour, I realllllly love the Amazona Filofaxes. Why do they always seem to discontinue the best ones??? Hmph.

    1. They really are quite luxurious! They are currently on sale on the German site if you're desperate to get one (but not the almond colour unless you want a Slimline - thanks, Filofit!) x

    2. I love this, was watching a mini for a while on ebay, just couldn't justify the price :)

  2. I've been lemming a personal Amazona for a while now (along with some others!) and have yet to find one in my price range. Bummer about yours. Being on the other side of the world, I've not had that issue with the rings, I'd be gutted if I did. Plum Osterley!

    1. Keeping an eye out on eBay is probably your best bet :)

I hope the Osterley lives up to expectation as I've wanted one for quite some time too - but was just waiting for a price drop first! x

  3. O_O Like I told you on twitter, my amazona has one pair of wonky rings, but (even though I haven't yet trained it to lay flat) it doesn't seem to get worse! That sounds awful! But it's great that they will give you an Osterly instead. :)

On another note: I LOVE your nail polish! As an asian I'm always leery of peachy/beige/pale pink/pale orange colors as they can make me look really sick. But that one looks perfect! What's the brand and color? :3

    1. Hehe, I'm quite pale for an Oriental so I find I can get away with a lot of colours that others can't :)

This one is called Peach Melba and it's by Barry M but I got it last summer so not sure if it's still available now. I'm really craving a lilac colour at the moment - have no idea where this pastel colour obsession has come from! x

    3. Yay! Thanks! :3 I'm also the "paler" skin-type (the type that gets really pale in winter but can get really brown during the summer... or just classic han). I recently bought a very nice pale lilac from O.P.I. They have some really nice shades going this season. :)

  4. I've been wondering- is that a gusseted pocket on the right? Beautiful FILO, too bad about the rings.

    1. Sorry for being dim, but what is a gusseted pocket? :) And yes, it is beautiful but not 100% functional due to some page snagging which is a real shame! x

  5. Oh no! How disappointing! You seem to be taking it in stride though. I've been eyeing the Osterly in plum as well. It looks gorgeous! Can't wait to see a review.

  6. My Amazona tends to do that too, I can't remember when I first noticed it, maybe it is something to do with training it! I find that if I close the rings by pushing the inner rings together- the 3rd from the top and 3rd from the bottom- it stops the gap from appearing, whereas if I close them using the first and last rings, the gap is at its widest!

  7. She was a beauty...to bad about the rings. My stomach sunk upon hearing this and it wasn't even mine! lol Such a shame. I love all things leather in white, almond, cream, taupe. I think its just so classy looking. Well good luck with your plum Osterly...that's a real beauty too!
