organisation: using oxford project books

So, I came home with one of these today. An A4 Oxford project book. It comes with six dividers (not removable as far as I can see?), A4 paper that is perforated and can be removed easily and also a pouch at the back for loose papers or pens and stuff.

Anyway, that isn't the interesting part...

Opening it up, one can see this to begin with:

It says at the bottom, 'For more information, please visit www.mindtools.com/oxford'. And I did - it is full of tips which expands on the ones in the project book itself. I'd urge you to take a look as there are so many useful tips on there - some of which I hope to incorporate in my own life's projects! Moreover, not only are there tips for organisation, there are tips for learning things, tips for communication and tips for goal setting - all very useful as far as I can see as I have bookmarked the site and copied down relevant stuff that I particularly value as advice!

  1. I love the Oxford work books! I use the project book for college (I'm old school and like to handwrite all my work before typing it up) Anyway the dividers in the project book are moveable, although I just move them to the back and forget about them.. Lovely paper to write on though. Stacey :)

    1. How did you manage to move them about? Sorry if that's a stupid question but I couldn't figure it out. It's not with me at the moment as I left it at home (don't have an immediate need for it yet) but it'd be good to know how to move them :) x

  2. It's not stupid, the holes that attatch the dividers to the wire ring are open, so they're able to simply pull out, then put back in at a different location. It's the same concept as the Staples Arc binders so if you look them up you should be able to see what I mean (I'm not very good at explaining, more of a show how to kind of person) if not I could always tweet you a picture :)
    Hope that helps :)

  3. Ps. Just wanted to make sure that you're aware I'm talking about the project book and not the organiser book you blogged about ;)

    1. Ahhh. I have the Project books as well and the dividers are movable in those but they don't seem to be in the organiser book? I'll have a fiddle when I go home for a few days this week to see if I can work it out :)

  4. I can't seem to move the dividers either, is there some trick to it? Thanks in advance :) (I am also using the Organiser Book)

    1. I can't figure it out either. Manufacturing error, maybe? :s

    2. Same; got one recently and as far as I can see there is no way to remove those binders without having to cut them out. the shape of the wire stops you from being able to pull it out.. googling brings me no luck either. =/.

  5. It was driving me insane so I called Oxford who said that the dividers in the Organiser Book are not designed to be removed (so why do they have four ring binder holes in them then!). You also cannot insert the paper sheets into the dividers at the back so it's a pretty stupid design really. Apparently the one with removeable dividers is the project book.

    1. It really is a stupid design. What is the point of having these dividers if you can't move them?! x

  6. It was driving me insane so I called Oxford who said that the dividers are not supposed to be removed (so why do they have four hole punches in them then!). Also, you cannot insert the notepaper between the dividers. Any notes are just supposed to sit there until you put them in a sensible folder at home. Pretty stupid design really. Apparently if you want one with removeable stuff then you need the Project Book.

    1. Well, that really is a stupid design - I completely agree with you. The only reason I bought it was because I thought the removable dividers would be super handy but now it seems more like a refill pad x

  7. Having just spent an infuriating hour of my time trying to work out how to make the pages stay in the dividers of my Organiser Book I am so glad to have stumbled across this forum, what a ridiculous design!! And what then are the punched holes for???

  8. I am glad I am not the only one. Was beginning to think I was losing brain function. What a stupid product; utterley pointless.

  9. I agree too - I bought this instead of a more expensive one - I wish I had spent the extra £1 or so now! I might try and bodge it out so I can slot them in between pages!

Glad I'm not the only one googling this issue!

  10. Thanks for these comments guys - really helpful!

I have just made them removable, by cutting a snip by each hole (you can use scissors or a craft knife). You can them move them around, and re-position them really easily.

No idea why they haven't done that originally, but at least its relatively easy to solve.

Thanks too for posting the note above. I bought my book in a French supermarket, and have been struggling translating the info into English!

  11. I have the same organiser,it seems to be a mess up at the manufacturers end.The dividers were placed in the ring first and they should have been put in last like the black organiser section. If you look the black part it can be easily be removed and the divders should have been in this section too!!!

  12. The most craziest design in the world. Have taken a stanley knife to create the slits and can now put them where i want them!!
