two years with my Kindle

I've now had my Kindle for two years (it was a graduation present from my parents) and it has seen plenty of use. I have read more books in two years than I probably have done in the last ten years and the fact that it is so light and easy to carry round means I have no excuse not to be reading more.

Last year, I didn't quite manage to reach my goal of 52 books read in 52 weeks but I did end up with a respectable 43 books in 52 weeks. I think one of my main problems is continuing with a book as some books just didn't seem to draw me in as much as I would have liked.

My 2014 list is nowhere near as impressive - the amount of studying I had to do and juggling an active(ish) social life along with that meant I am averaging one book a month. I don't tend to read short books either so I think one book a month is pretty good going for someone who barely has time to relax, let alone read! I'm hoping to have read about 14 by the end of this year - I'm currently on twelve so I'm well on target.

Overall, my Kindle has completely put the joy back into reading for me. Long gone are the days of lugging around a heavy book and showing everyone on public transport just how poor my taste in books is! From time to time, I do miss the physicality of holding an actual paperback but then I pick up my Longchamp bag that I use for uni and realise just how much extra weight that would add to my (already) sore shoulders.

  1. I love my kindle too especially when going on holiday and the prospect of taking several books is not going to cause a problem with the luaage allowance. Plus much easy to balance on the plane with a cup of tea etc. Perhaps I should start a list as well.

    1. I definitely recommend starting a list - it'll give you a sense of achievement when you look back at the list at the end of the year :) x

  4. I've found that reading on a Nook or Kindle has made reading easier for me as well. There are the moments where I miss having the actual book in my hands but now I can carry HUGE libraries in a tiny device.

    1. I'm surprised at how little I miss holding a physical book. I dread to think how much more storage space I'd need if I had physical books instead of Kindle copies x

  5. But how have you read 6 of the Harry Potter books and not the last one?

    1. Because I read the last one at the end of 2012 and wanted to re-read the rest of the series in the summer of 2013 :) x

  6. You are an inspiration and encourage me to READ more! If you can read that many books with your crazy schedule, no one has an excuse not to read. I love reading, but distractions are a problem and there are just so many wonderful projects from which to choose! (The one good thing is that I am never bored.) I need to have the paper in my hand and turn those pages though. Electronics don't count for me when reading a book, even though I use my iPad for so much. I am all for whatever makes reading easier and accessible, period, so however one wishes to do it is great. I think I am probably showing my age. ;) Thanks for helping me get the lead out and reminding me to pick out a book from the stack that is next to my bed!

    1. Thank you for your lovely comment, Lore :) I just try and read whenever I can - before I fall asleep, on public transport, whenever I have a spare moment, etc :) x

  7. Yay, I LOVE my Kindle! I broke mine (don't drop an iPhone onto its screen!) and I was so upset... Was going to buy a new one but my sister gave me hers that she got free with her phone contract - how lucky is that?!

I'm considering upgrading to a paperwhite one though so I can read in the dark ;)

Also - love some of the books you have on your list... Just finished Isla and the Happily Ever After (book 3 in Anna and the French Kiss series) - I loved it, definitely recommend it :D

    1. I've dropped my Kindle a few times but luckily, it's still in full working order. It's out of warranty now too (and has been for quite some time as it's only one year I think) so fingers crossed it can keep going for a while!

My sister has a paperwhite one and I think that might be the next one I opt for.

Oooh, I'll add Isla and the Happily Ever After to my 'to read' list :D thanks for the recommendation :D x

  8. I love my Kindle too. I have had mine for about 3 years and have read 183 books in those 3 years. Reading is fantastic and definitely relaxes me
