my filofax week #3

Another week down. How time flies, eh? Anyway, here was my week. Nice and colourful (I always decorate the top of the right hand side sheet in some sort of pattern) and quite a few to-do's too on each day. Again, the more personal stuff has been pixelated.

As I said last week, I'd like to start featuring readers' weeks too in this weekly slot in addition/in place of my own boring pages. If you'd like to be the first, send me a tweet (@paperlovestory) or send me an email (fadingskylines[@]gmail.com) with a picture of your week plus some text if you want.

Unfortunately, next week is a bit more boring as things stand; but with things happening quite spontaneously for me at the moment, that may change! Have a good week :)

  2. Congrats on your six month anniversary. You're filofax always looks so wonderful. It makes me want to decorate in a similar fashion. :)

  3. Congrats on your anniversary :)

This is such a lovely idea for a regular post! I may even start doing it myself, and would love to be involved! However after a bit of a filofax fail I've decided to try with another type of planner (waiting for it to be delivered from Artbox!) and see how that goes :)

But if you're open to featuring non-filofax planners then I'd be up for it!

    Love the blog :)

    1. Thank you!

It'd be lovely to feature your planner :) I'm open to all types of planners, etc. It's just fantastic to see how other people operate and organise when it comes to their planner and seeing other people's planners and weeks is, in my opinion, the best way to get ideas on how to better your own organisational system. Not only that, nosying in someone else's planner is always fun :) x

My planner arrived yesterday and it's all set up (ish) :), so let me know if you'd like me to send you a picture :)

  4. oh,your Filofax weekly update is so cute and useful. I'm a college student and also want to use Filofax, do you have some advice for me about the size choice?

    1. Hi Lulu. Ultimately, it depends on what you want from your Filofax. Things to take into consideration are:

      - portability
      - space to write things in (though this can be solved in another way too)
      - ring size
      - style!

For portability, obviously, the smaller the better but once you do that, you compromise the amount of space you have to write things in. This can be solved through using a layout such as 'Day per page' or 'Two days per page' but that takes up more space in the number of pages you have to lug around with you. I tend to stick to the Personal size as it's ultra portable and the layout of 'Week on Two Pages' is fine with enough space for the things I want to write in. I supplement the pages with smaller pieces of notepaper though, such as the one seen above that I wrote my shopping list on.

Next, ring size. This depends on what you want to carry around with you. Can you live with just a few months of diary inserts along with minimal notepaper? If so, a smaller ring size such as a Compact or a Slimline may be more for you as that means you can personal sized paper but also carry less around. However, if a larger ring size is what you would rather have as you want to carry the kitchen sink with you, then it might be worth checking out. For instance, my Affair has 15mm rings whereas my Finchleys have 23mm rings. Although this doesn't sound like much of a difference, it means that in my Affair, I only carry the next 6 months of inserts with me along with about 10 sheets of notepaper and 5 sheets of paper that have important info in. Both of these Filofaxes are of the same size too (personal).

And finally, style. This is an important consideration as not all sizes have the same colours/models!

Personally, from my own personal (biased) experience, I woud recommend the personal size. I have tried the A5 size too but found it too big to carry around but ok to have at home on the desk. I've never tried any of the sizes smaller than the Personal, apart from the Compact (which is only regarded as smaller due to the ring size) so I cannot compare the personal to the mini or pocket for instance. Also, the personal size has cotton cream paper (which I love) whereas the A5 doesn't. I'm pretty sure that cotton cream inserts are available for the pocket and mini sizes too.

I hope this gives you a bit more information that you need to purchase a Filofax :) Any more questions, shoot them my way! I love chatting about Filofax and organisation hehe :) x

    2. Thanks so much for your reply. I read almost all your post about Filofax, and I thought your setting is absolutely useful and gorgeous. I agree that maybe personal size is the most suitable size for both my academic and social life.
In addition to the size problem, I also have an issue about the additional paper or stationary accessories, such as:Do you use exra papers exluding the original from Filofax company? Do you use card holder?
And again, thanks so much for your help.

    3. I use Filofax cotton cream notepaper in lined and the to-do list paper from Filofax too. I don't tend to the use the card holder as there are card slots in my Filofax anyway so I see no need to :) Depending on where you're from, you may be able to use inserts from other companies too. For example, there is Franklin Covey (I think?), Kate Spade, Coach, etc. Because I'm from the UK, the Coach and Kate Spade ones have been hard to source (believe me when I say I've been looking very hard!) but are much easier to find in the US.

      Hope this helps! x
